My Story
Hi, I'm Mei! I'm a knitwear designer living in Brooklyn, New York. I grew up in a small mountain town in Washington State, after spending much of my early childhood with my Japanese grandmother, who first taught me to knit and crochet. Making things has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
After studying mathematics in college, I spent seven years working in specialty coffee in Seattle, all the while cultivating a love for clothing, personal style, and self-expression. Knitting remained a hobby during those years, eventually growing into a creative practice of its own and, in time, the work I do today.

About Mei Knits Studio
My designs bring together the things I've always been drawn to: vintage silhouettes, playful textures, thoughtful details, and clothing as a form of self-expression. I love the balance of creativity and problem-solving that goes into pattern design, from working out the details of a construction to seeing an idea take shape in something you can wear. I'm drawn to pieces that feel a little nostalgic but still belong in the present, with a balance of everyday wearability and something unexpected.
Through my patterns, I hope to share a little of what inspires me and encourage others to make things that feel entirely their own.
